The Mets announced today they’ve added prospect 3B/1B/LF Mark Vientos, SS Ronny Mauricio, RHP Adam Oller, and RHP Jose Butto and to the 40-man roster to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft.

The Rule 5 draft is currently schedule for Dec. 9, but the pending likely work stoppage would push it to a later date.

The 20-year-old Mauricio and 21-year-old Vientos, two of the Mets top prospects, were no-brainer adds in their first time being Rule 5 eligible.

Butto, 23, is arguably the Mets top pitching prospect that finished the 2021 season with Double-A experience. The changeup specialist posted a 3.35 ERA and a terrific 5.56 strikeout to walk ratio in eight starts following his promotion from High-A Brooklyn to Binghamton.

Oller came to the Mets in 2019 from the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft. The right-hander had a 3.45 ERA and 138 strikeouts in 120 innings this year between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse

Notable players that will be exposed to the Rule 5 Draft include 2B/LF Carlos Cortes, C Hayden Senger, RHP Colin Holderman, RHP Brian Metoyer, and OF Carlos Rincon.
