The New York Mets announced today they have activated right-handed reliever Jeurys Familia from the 60-day disabled list and placed outfielder Michael Conforto on the DL.
Familia finished his final test on Wednesday night when he threw a scoreless inning for the Brooklyn Cyclones on the back-end off pitching on two consecutive days. Familia has thrown four scoreless rehab innings with five strikeouts.
Tests in early May revealed a blood clot in Familia’s right shoulder, which has kept him off a big league mound since May 10. In 9.1 innings with the Mets this season, he has a 3.86 ERA, 10 strikeouts, and eight walks.
Conforto dislocated his shoulder on Thursday and a MRI later showed a tear in the posterior capsule in the left shoulder. He is out for the season and all treatment options, including possible surgery to repair the capsule, are being considered.
