The Mets and Athletics have agreed to a deal that would send right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt to the Mets, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported Saturday.
Bassitt, 33, has been great for the A’s over the last two seasons. He posted a 3.15 ERA in 27 starts last year, along with 9.1 K/9. He also put up a 2.29 ERA over 11 starts in the shortened 2020 season.
He owns a 3.47 ERA over seven major league seasons, with 8.2 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9.
In return, the Mets will be trading minor league pitchers J.T. Ginn and Adam Oller to the A’s.
Ginn was the Mets’ second-round pick in 2020. He posted a 3.03 ERA in 2021 between Low-A St. Lucie and High-A Brooklyn. Oller was selected by the Mets in the 2019 minor league Rule 5 draft. In 2021, he had a 4.03 ERA with 11.3 K/9 over 15 starts with Double-A Binghamton and a 2.45 ERA over eight starts with Triple-A Syracuse.
After the big duo of Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, the Mets’ rotation now has Bassitt, Carlos Carrasco and Taijuan Walker in the back end. Next on the depth chart would be David Peterson and Tylor Megill if anyone gets hurt.
