In addition to the previously announced full season affiliate coaching staffs, the New York Mets have announced their 2023 Player Development staff. The staff is once again headed by Kevin Howard:

  • Kevin Howard, Director, Player Development
  • Andrew Christie, Assistant Director, Player Development
  • Ronny Reyes, Director, Minor League Operations
  • Juan Henderson, Director, Latin America Operations
  • Neskys Liriano, Manager of Minor League Education and Life Skills
  • Amy Ross, Coordinator, Minor League Operations
  • Ches Goodman, Assistant, Minor League Travel
  • John Mullin, Manager, Minor League Equipment & Operations
  • Drew Dunton, Assistant Manager Minor League Clubhouse & Equipment

Howard has been the Mets director of player development since January 2021. Since taking over, the Mets have seen top prospects like Francisco Álvarez, Brett Baty, and Mark Vientos make it to the majors. Of note, lesser-known prospects like Tylor Megill became impactful Major League players. Currently, the Mets have seven different players ranked in various top 100 prospect rankings (Álvarez, Baty, Kevin ParadaAlex Ramirez, Kodai Senga, and Jett Williams).

The Mets have also announced their Coordinators/Rovers for the 2023 season:

  • Jeff Albert, Director, Hitting Development
  • Eric Jagers, Director, Pitching Development
  • Eddy Rodriguez, Field Coordinator
  • Ken Knutson, Assistant Field Coordinator
  • Jono Armold, Pitching Coordinator
  • Kyle Driscoll, Assistant Pitching Coordinator/Pitching Coach
  • Max Vogel-Freedman, Coordinator, Player Development Programming
  • Miguel Cairo, Infield Coordinator
  • Robert Natal, Catching Coordinator
  • Kyle Rogers, Pitching & Performance Integration Coordinator
  • Shane Robinson, Outfield/Base Running Coach
  • Luis Rivera, Roving INF Instructor
  • Jemile Weeks, Roving INF/Base Running Instructor

As previously reported, Cairo takes over the role once held by Tim Teufel. At that time, it was also reported Driscoll was promoted to be the Triple-A Syracuse pitching coach. Apparently, Driscoll will be pulling double duty as he will also be the assistant pitching coordinator.

Endy Chavez and Phil Regan are gone after serving in instructor roles last season.

Entering the season, Billy Eppler was said to want a player development organizational shake-up. While there are many new faces to the organization and people in new roles, apparently, Eppler is happy with Howard’s leadership and the direction he is leading the franchise.
