If you’re a crazed Mets fan like me, you probably have that little sidebar gadget on your Vista desktop that shows you the updated NL East Standings. And if you are a discombobulated nut like me, you probably knocked over your orange juice this morning when you booted your laptop and the first thing you notice is that the Mets are just half a game behind the Phillies!
Second baseman, Luis Castillo will be on his toes for this Yankees-Mets rematch, and probably more so than his other teammates. Something tells me that he will find a way to make amends during this second round of the Subway Series for that dropped ball nightmare at Yankee Stadium. Did you know that Luis Castillo is batting .352 at home? He also went 6-12 (.500 Avg.) in the Cardinals series and scored five runs!
The Mets had a their second sellout of the season yesterday, and I bet all 41,000 had to check their their underwear after Yadier Molina powered that scorching line drive to left field with the tying and winning runs on base in the ninth inning, off of closer Frankie Rodriguez! Luckily, defensive replacement Jeremy Reed earned his entire paycheck for the season on that great stab to end the inning and the game. Afterward, NY Baseball Digest tells us that the quote of the game was when Frankie said “anyone out there have a heart attack [on the Molina line out]… if so send me the bills”. I wonder if he’s footing the tab for our laundry bills too… That’s what Omir whispered to him when they hugged it out after the game.
Speaking of the dastardly Yadier Molina… Imagine how frustrated and pissed off he was yesterday in the seventh inning when his would-be base hit was ROBBED by an amazing diving catch by centerfielder Fernando Martinez. F-Mart seemingly came into the picture out of nowhere as the ball dropped right into his outstretched glove. Take that, Yadier! Martinez may be an eye-sore at the plate, but he has really flashed the leather filling in for Beltran.
