Game after game, time after time, we have seen Chipper Jones –or as us Mets affectionately now him, “LAA-RRYY”– find a way to somehow tomahawk the Amazin’s. For years we have seen the 1990 first overall pick dismantle Flushing’s Finest be it with the bat or the glove, however that ended today.
Playing in his final game against his favorite opponent, Chipper got one last laugh, making three solid defensive efforts at the hot corner to dash any hopes of a comeback for the Mets in the 6-2 rubber game loss at Turner Field.
Jenrry Mejia wasn’t exactly solid as he surrendered a three spot in the second in the form of a David Ross three-run blast and another run in the fifth, creating a deficit too great for this afternoon’s Wright-less offense. Mejia ended the day with a final line of five innings pitched allowing four runs on six hits while walking a pair and punching out three, falling to 1-2 on the year while boosting his ERA to 5.63.
As for the Mets offense, there was not a whole lot to write home about. They collected just five hits, scoring on a Freddie Freeman throwing error in the third and again during a rally in the ninth. That rally began with an Ike Davis double and a two out walk to Lucas Duda. Andres Torres then singled home Davis before Fred Lewis grounded out to end the ballgame and hand the Mets their 86th loss this season.

Notes:
-With that 86th loss, the 2012 Mets have officially lost more games than 2011 in which they finished 77-85.
-Daniel Murphy picked up his 40th double on the year, a new career high for Murph. His previous mark was 38, set back in 2009.
