Minutes following the release of the lineup for their 6:10 game against the Miami Marlins, skipper Mickey Callaway has revealed that Jeff McNeil‘s omission (his second in six games thus far) comes on account of a “banged up” knee.

The severity of his injury remains unknown. He is, in fact, available to pinch-hit tonight, so there isn’t any reason to anticipate the utilityman missing extensive time. In his stead, the Mets will roll with J.D. Davis at third base.

Davis, who will bat fifth Wednesday, has three hits in his first 16 plate appearances, and has already cost the Mets two defensive runs in his four appearances. He will face off against right-hander Trevor Richards, against whom McNeil is 3-for-5 with a triple.
