New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke to reporters on Monday morning, touching on the reports that his office would have a legal right to look at Steve Cohen’s bid to buy the Mets.

Joe Pantorno of AMNY provided the quotes, “This is something our law department is evaluating, we’re going to get to a resolution on this very quickly.”

It was reported last week by Bob Nightengale of USA Today that because of the language in the deal for Citi Field, that the Mayor’s office could squash any deal that involved a convicted felon.

“Because the land that Citi Field is on belongs to the city, the city always has to have a role when there is an ownership change. There’s a process for doing that, the law department is doing its due diligence right now. I’ll be getting a report from them soon, it’ll be based on the facts and I will respond to it quickly.”

Major League Baseball’s owners are expected to vote on Cohen’s bid at some point this week.
