Well, that escalated quickly…or, it didn’t at all. Here’s the latest from Mayer on Scott Harris and the Mets:

So, instead of keeping one potential executive on their wish list, the Mets will have to cross another one off.

Another day is here, which is just another opportunity for the New York Mets to lose another potential option for their openings in the front office. But, the news isn’t all bad this time.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are officially on the couch and getting ready to watch the World Series after the Atlanta Braves eliminated them over the weekend. With that hypothetically comes the opportunity for the Mets to ask permission to interview any of the executives they have their eye on for the organization’s current openings in the front office.

Recently, Mike Puma of the New York Post mentioned a few names on the Mets’ radar, with Josh Byrnes and Brandon Gomes of the Dodgers both mentioned. According to MMO’s Mike Mayer, we can cross Gomes off that list:

Gomes’ current title with Los Angeles is Vice President and Assistant General Manager. A former pitcher, he spent five seasons in the big leagues from 2011 to 2015 with the Tampa Bay Rays. Through 167 career innings exclusively as a reliever, Gomes pitched to a 4.20 ERA with a 20.3% strikeout rate, 8.6% walk rate, and an 11-12 record.

It’s not hard to see the connection between Gomes and the Dodgers — his time as a player overlapped with Andrew Friedman’s time in Tampa Bay’s front office. And, while the results weren’t what Los Angeles wanted to finish in 2021, they’ve been one of the most consistently successful organizations over the past decade. With a crucial offseason coming up for the Dodgers, it makes sense that Friedman would likely want to do everything possible to keep trusted execs with the organization.

That was me giving you the bad news first, though — there is someone interested in joining the Mets’ front office. That’d be current San Francisco Giants general manager, Scott Harris. Once again, MMO’s Mike Mayer was the first to note New York and Harris making contact:

Trying to have conversations with the two clubs who won most regular-season games this past year is never a bad idea. While the Mets have lost yet another potential option to fill out their front office openings, they seemingly have an intriguing option in Harris, and he’s interested in the opportunity.
