The Mets plan to call up third-base prospect Brett Baty after a rash of injuries to the team, according to MMO’s own Mike Mayer.

Baty, the team’s second-ranked prospect after Francisco Álvarez, was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse just two weeks ago. He notched eight singles and three walks in 26 plate appearances in that time. Previously, he slashed .312/.406/.544/.950 over nearly 400 plate appearances this year at Double-A Binghamton.

The Mets have all of a sudden needed desperate help on the infield after injuries to Eduardo Escobar (oblique) and Luis Guillorme (groin). Escobar has tried to play through his injury, but he was scratched ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Braves. The team has called up Deven Marrero in place of Guillorme, but it seems Baty will soon get the call, too.

Mayer says the Mets are trying to get Baty to Atlanta by the game tonight, but at the very least, he will be activated for Wednesday’s game.

Baty’s bat is viewed as MLB-ready, and the only part of his game that has been questioned is his defense at third base. However, his defense shouldn’t be too big of a drop off from Escobar, who ranks in just the fourth percentile in Outs Above Average, according to Statcast.
