Free-agent pitcher Matt Harvey has “agreed to a deal” with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, as per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Jon Heyman of FanCred confirmed that it’s a one-year contract worth $11 million with $3 million in incentives “based on games started”.

Harvey, 29, spent the first six years of his career with the New York Mets, breaking into the league with a bang before succumbing to a string of injuries — most notably Tommy John surgery in 2013 and being diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome in 2016.

During his time in Flushing, Harvey pitched to a 3.66 earned-run average, 3.43 fielding independent pitching rating, 1.192 WHIP, and a 3.50 strikeouts-to-walks ratio in 109 appearances (104 starts; 639.1 innings).

After making eight starts for the Mets in 2018 (7.00 ERA, 1.556 WHIP, 2.22 strikeouts-t0-walks), Harvey was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for catcher Devin Mesoraco.

Once in Cincinnati, Harvey settled down a bit, pitching to a 4.50 ERA over 24 starts with 7.8 strikeouts and 2.0 walks per nine innings, respectively, and 1.250 WHIP.

In seven starts from August 11 to September 14 last season, Matt Harvey owned a 2.88 ERA, .252/.283/.390 slash line against, and struck out 43 batters — walking just seven — in 40.2 innings of work.
