Matt Harvey continues to insist that he will pitch season for the Mets. He told followers on Twitter that “Harvey Day will happen in 2014.”

Harvey has been making rapid progress since undergoing Tommy John surgery last September on his right elbow. He has already thrown on consecutive days and has told team officials and reporters that he feels great.

However, general manager Sandy Alderson said it’s not the team’s goal to have him back before the season ends although he hasn’t ruled out his return.

Harvey went 9-5 with a 2.27 ERA last season and was on a Cy Young pace and one of the top three pitchers in the majors before being shut down for the season. The powerful right-hander started the 2013 All Star Game for the National League.

I’m sure that the team will be absolutely certain he doesn’t get on a mound this season unless they are 110% confident it won’t jeopardize his 2015 season.
