Daisuke - Matsuzaka

Daisuke Matsuzaka was struck in the right thigh with a Carlos Gomez-liner to end the sixth inning Tuesday night and was subsequently pulled from the game.

Matsuzaka was already at 100 pitches, however; Terry Collins said post-game that he would have allowed the 33-year-old right-hander to begin the seventh if not for the comebacker, this according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com.

“Pitch-count-wise I think I would have been able to go into the next inning fine,” Matsuzaka said to Rubin through his interpreter. “During the game and right now it’s not too bad. But it should start swelling up, I think, by tomorrow. So we’ll see what happens.”

Matsuzaka is still slated to make his next scheduled start in the series finale against the San Diego Padres on Sunday, June 15 at 1:10 p.m., according to the Mets.com Probable Pitchers page.
