There has been no better hitter in baseball over the last two weeks than Mark Canha.

In 11 games and 40 plate appearances, Canha has recorded a 288 wRC+. Albert Pujols is second with a 272 wRC+.

Canha’s offensive tear has come at an opportune time when other members of the Mets lineup like Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor are slumping. Alonso and Lindor are playing below league average and below their 2022 averages, according to wRC+.

Over the last 14 days, Canha is batting .400/.475/.943 for an OPS of 1.418. He had four home runs, 12 runs batted in, and eight runs scored. Eleven of his fourteen hits have been for extra bases with seven doubles as well.

Canha’s power surge led to him tying up last nights game with the 100th home run of his career.

Canha was also the catalyst to a Mets win in Philadelphia last week. He homered twice in the final three innings to pull the Mets out of two separate deficits during the game.

“The lack of power has been kind of frustrating, but I realize it’s a journey,” Canha said on August 21. “So it’s kind of been a long haul for me to get to this point where I am in the season. I was just super happy to contribute and get one for the boys.”

Canha even got some deserving praise from the Phillies broadcast booth.

It seemed as if the Mets’ plan for the final stretch of the season would be to use Canha in a part-time role with the acquisition of Tyler Naquin. But Canha’s offensive outburst has all but eliminated that mockup.

Canha is having the second-best offensive season of his career with a slash line of .278/.376/.425 in 109 games.
