The Seattle Mariners made one trade on Friday and are finalizing another. The finished one sent former Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray to the Giants, and the second will get 1B/OF Luke Raley from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jeff Passan of ESPN was the first to report the Mariners were trading starter Ray to the San Francisco Giants for right-handed pitcher Anthony DeSclafani and outfielder Mitch Haniger.

Ray, 32, pitched in only one game last season before needing Tommy John surgery in May, which will likely keep him out for the first half of the 2024 season. Ray has three-years, $73 million left on his contract, but can opt-out after the 2024 season.

DeSclafini, 32, struggled to the tune of a 4.88 ERA in 99 2/3 innings for the Giants last season. His best season came in 2021 with the Giants when he posted a 3.17 ERA in 31 starts. DeSclafini will make $12 million in 2024 and then become a free agent after the season.

Haniger, 33, returns to the organization where he hit 107 home runs over five seasons. The former first round pick had just a .630 OPS in 61 games for the Giants in 2023. Haniger will make $20 million in 2024 and has a $15.5 player option for the 2025 season.

The Mariners are also getting cash from the Giants in the deal.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports the Mariners are working on a trade that would send infielder José Caballero to the Rays for the aforementioned Raley.
