shaun marcum

Wow, Shaun Marcum must be feeling like the weight of the world has been lifted off his shoulders. The righthander tossed eight scoreless innings as the Mets beat the White Sox by the score of 3-0 tonight at U.S. Cellular Field.

Marcum was solid all night long allowing just four hits and walking two with two strikeouts. He had some great defense behind him including some spectacular plays from Omar Quintanilla and Josh Satin.. For Marcum he lowers his ERA to 5.08, but more importantly for him, he gets his first win of the season to improve to 1-9. Take a bow Shaun, you’re off the schneid.

Bobby Parnell came out for the ninth and delivered a 1-2-3 innings for the save, his 13th of the season.

Offensively, the Mets did all their scoring in the fifth when Josh Satin and Andrew Brown both singled. Then with Juan Lagares at the plate, he reaches on a two-base error by Alexei Ramirez that allowed Satin and Brown to score. Lagares then came scampering home with the third run after an RBI single by Eric Young.

Young went 3-for-4 and has been a revelation since the Mets picked him up. John Buck struck out four times and is now batting .210. I’m ready to see more Anthony Recker, how about you?

Omar Quintanilla might just Wall Pipp rehabbing shortstop Ruben Tejada. I mean his defensive play has been outstanding night after night, and his bat isn’t as bad we all thought. He’s hitting .253.

Anyway, great game to watch. It was good to see Marcum get the win…

Mets get the split and guarantee themselves a winning road trip as they hop on a jet to Denver for a makeup game with the Rockies. Jeremy Hefner (2-6, 3.89 ERA) goes against right-hander Tyler Chatwood (4-1, 2.22 ERA) at 6:10 PM.

Lets Go Mets!
