Rob Manfred was asked on Wednesday about his knowledge of the Mets’ sale from the Wilpons to billionaire Steve Cohen, as detailed by MetsMerized’s own Michael Mayer.

Manfred said that he wasn’t sure when he had heard about the sale to Cohen, but said that he foresees “no governance issues” with regards to getting approved as the Mets’ new owner.

That is actually pretty important as Cohen was involved in an insider trading scandal in 2012.

If the deal were to be completed, Cohen would pay $2.6 billion to own 80% of the team by 2025, as detailed by Scott Soshnick of Bloomberg News.

Both Fred and Jeff Wilpon are expected to remain in their current roles until that point as well, although Cohen is likely to get more control once the agreement is finalized and approved by the league.
