The Mets are placing infielder Luis Guillorme on the injured list with a calf injury, Buck Showalter told reporters following Saturday’s early game.

Guillorme was removed from the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after failing to handle a hard ground ball from Rafael Devers. He said he felt his calf tighten up when reaching down to pick up the ball, and was in a walking boot and using crutches following the game, Tim Britton of The Athletic reported.

Danny Mendick will be Guillorme’s replacement on the active roster, Anthony DiCommo of MLB.com reported. Mendick was up with the Mets briefly at the end of June, appearing in four games and going 0-for-7. Mendick is hitting .266/.354/.403 in Triple-A this season, and .286/.333/.429 since returning to the minors following his stint in Queens.

Ronny Mauricio is the name fans would have liked to see get a shot, but the Mets opted to not go down that road quite yet.

Mauricio has played 42 games and 363 and one-third inning at second base this season in Syracuse, the most of any position. However, in his last 15 games he has played second base just three times, with 10 games coming in left field and two coming at shortstop.

Mauricio is starting at DH for the Syracuse Mets tonight and hitting second.
