Amed Rosario is finally in the major leagues with the New York Mets and has already shown fans a glimpse of what he can do with the glove at shortstop.

However, the Mets still have another great defensive shortstop prospect in the minors, Luis Guillorme, who some regard even higher defensively than Rosario.

Guillorme jumped onto Mets fans radar when he made the ridiculous bat catch this spring while playing in big league camp. But, if you pay attention to the minors even a little, you know that’s just where the highlights begin for the talented infielder.

The 22-year-old Guillorme has won two defensive plays of the week honors this season in the Eastern League for the Binghamton Rumble ponies and should have another coming soon because of this play.

On the offensive front, Guillorme has reached base safely in 29 straight games for 66-46 Rumble Ponies. During that span Guillorme is slashing .292/.420/.330 with 19 runs scored and 13 RBI.

In 102 Double-A games this year he is hitting .294/.377/.343 with more walks (52) than strikeouts (47) and has tied a career high with 16 doubles. In 40 games this year in the leadoff spot he’s posted a .398 on-base percentage.

Guillorme has also shown great defensive versatility with 45 games at shortstop, 61 at second and even two games at third this year.

It shouldn’t be long before we see Guillorme in Triple-A for Las Vegas and he has to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason to prospect him from the Rule 5 Draft.
