Francisco Lindor doesn’t only hit home runs on the field — he hit a big-time one on Monday when he made a six-year-old fan’s dream come true.

The Mets acquired Lindor along with pitcher Carlos Carrasco from the Indians last Friday. Later that night, long-time Mets fan Felix Rios posted a video of his six year-old son and Lindor super-fan, Carmelo, being surprised by the news his favorite team traded for his favorite player.

The reaction is priceless.

The video went viral on Twitter, even catching the eyes of Lindor himself and his agent. Lindor’s agent reached out to Felix that very night to tell the family that Francisco was moved by the video and wanted to do something special for Carmelo. The Mets also contacted the family to say they had seen the video and wanted to connect.

Lindor held his introductory press conference on Monday donning a Mets cap for the first time and impressing everyone with his smile and obvious leadership qualities.

Later that night, Lindor showed why he’s a superstar on and off the field, when he surprised young Carmelo on a video chat.

The Rios family is currently living in Oklahoma, but moving back to New York City this spring, and Carmelo thought the video chat was an interview with the school.

Felix talked to MMO about the entire experience, “He actually had no idea that he was going to be speaking to him. My wife and I are from the lower east side of Manhattan but live in Tulsa, Oklahoma right now.”

“We are moving back to NYC this May and Carmelo is currently in the process of interviewing for schools so he thought he was about to meet with a teacher.”

“We wanted his reaction to be as organic as it was for the first video and I also didn’t want to get his hopes up if for whatever reason they weren’t able to fit him into what had to be a hectic press schedule.”

Carmelo, wearing a Lindor jersey from when he played for Puerto Rico in the WBC, was surprised and overwhelmed with joy when the Mets’ new shortstop popped up on the screen.

“It meant the world to be able to speak to him, but it meant more to him that he had a positive impact on so many people around the world.”

Felix believes this is something his son and Lindor won’t soon forget, “I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that this experience will forever connect him (Carmelo) to Francisco Lindor and as a father I honestly can not image a better athlete and person that he could look up to.”

“I believe Francisco when he said how much that video impacted him because I know that is the same way my son would’ve reacted if the roles were reversed.”

The jersey Carmelo was wearing in the video was given to him when he was three years old from his grandmother that sent it from Puerto Rico. The Rios family watched the magical run of Team Puerto Rico when they finished second in the 2017 World Baseball Classic with Lindor at shortstop.

Felix grew up loving baseball and specifically players from Puerto Rico because his uncle was very involved in the baseball scene there. He continues to root for Puerto Rican players when they aren’t playing his hometown Mets.

Felix picked a good year to become a Mets fan, “The first baseball game I ever attended was Opening Day 2 in 1986. Rodney Dangerfield threw out the first pitch and I’ve been a die hard fan through the good, bad, and ugly ever since. Even being in Oklahoma, we drive to St. Louis when the Mets are in town and even drove to Kansas City when the 7-Line Army invaded the city. My son absolutely loves Jacob deGrom and got to see him toss a gem that day.”

The Rios family is hopeful that Lindor will sign an extension to be with the Mets the rest of his career so Carmelo can continue cheering on his favorite player wearing blue and orange.

Felix is excited for the new direction the team is headed under new leadership, “I appreciate the energy Steve Cohen is bringing to the fan base. It feels good to know that although he owns the team he is still truly one of us. I’m honored that my son in many ways has made people reflect on how and why they fell in love with the game in the first place. With all the chaos in the world right now, stories it’s good to be reminded of the good in the world.”
