As MMO’s Michael Mayer first reported last night, lefty reliever Josh Edgin had his rehab assignment transferred from Single-A St. Lucie to Triple-A Las Vegas where he tossed a scoreless inning on Monday night.

Edgin, 29, must be activated from the disabled list by this Sunday when his 30 day rehab expires. It is widely expected that he will be optioned to Las Vegas so that he could get more innings under his belt.

“Velocity is supposed to edge up a little bit and move up. Is he going to get back fully to when we first saw him? I’m not sure,” Terry Collins said Monday. “He’s been pitching OK.”

Should the Mets need a left-handed reliever this season, Edgin will likely be the first option the Mets look to. For now, Jerry Blevins and Antonio Bastardo are holding down their spots on the active roster.

Edgin missed the entire 2015 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last Spring. He has a 3.20 ERA and 1.217 WHIP in 115 relief appearances for the Mets.
