As for Greinke’s ability to handle a large market, if teams are using his mental illness as a way to gauge his “toughness” or makeup, they should be ashamed. Depression is not about being sad, anxiety disorder is not just a matter of being scared, and neither one makes a person “soft.” This isn’t a question of “he can pitch here, but not there;” that’s an infuriatingly superficial take on a legitimate medical issue. Since Greinke came back from seeking treatment, he’s thrown 773 innings in the majors with a 3.32 ERA and great peripherals. You’re never really cured of depression or anxiety disorder, but Greinke has had a long and successful recovery, meaning that concerns that he’d fold like a Japanese fan the moment he got to Capital City are embarrasingly ignorant.
Buster Olney of ESPN.com is reporting that the Royals have traded pitcher Zack Greinke to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Milwaukee will reportedly send shortstop Alcides Escobar, center fielder Lorenzo Cain, and pitching prospects Jeremy Jeffress and Jake Odorizzi to the Royals/
The Brewers will also get shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt and $2MM dollars along with Grienke.
Just yesterday, the Daily News reported that a person familiar with the Mets’ thinking said the Mets “will not be in the mix” for Greinke.
MLBTR writes, Greinke, 27, had been one of the winter’s most discussed trade candidates, with rumors picking up steam after the right-hander requested a trade earlier this weekend.
During his time in Kansas City, Greinke posted a 3.82 ERA in 1108 innings, including a 3.25 ERA and 8.4 K/9 over the last three years. Prior to his Cy Young campaign in 2009, Greinke signed a four-year extension, meaning he’ll remain under Milwaukee’s control for two more seasons, at a cost of $13.5MM per year.
