Beloved Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez doesn’t want to watch the Mets play the Philadelphia Phillies this weekend.

Hernandez requested off from SNY for the series between the two teams starting on Friday.

“I’ve expressed to the front office – not the Mets front office – our front office at SNY that I hate doing Phillies games,” Hernandez said in the bottom of the second inning.

An exasperated Gary Cohen interjected saying “you hate doing Philly games?”

Hernandez continued:

Over the years -now they’re hot right now and I would like to see them play- but as far as fundamentally and defensively, the Phillies have always been just not up to it.

Here’s the clip.

Now, Hernandez isn’t outright refusing to broadcast the series. He requested the time off before the season began as he will be in St. Louis this weekend to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Cardinals 1982 championship team he was part of. And SNY obliged to give him the following series against the Phillies off as well.

That didn’t stop some Philadelphia fans from getting their jabs back at Keith’s quip.

Alec Bohm, who makes the play in this clip, has a -5 outs above average this season. That ranks 30th out of 35 third basemen this season. Really bodied the 11-time Gold Glove winner.

This season the Phillies ranked 28th in team outs above average and 26th in defensive runs saved. The Mets rank 9th in outs above average and 14th in defensive runs saved.

Some may point out the Phillies have fewer errors (47) than the Mets (49) this season. That’s fine but remember you can’t commit an error when your players can’t even make a play on the ball.

Also, remember Alec Bohm? The guy who made that play a few inches up on this page. Remember when that same guy had three errors in the same game against the Mets?

But hey look, I guess Keith Hernandez isn’t the only one who hates on Philadelphia. Even the guys they’re paying don’t want to be there.

If it makes things any better, Philadelphia only has to face Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom this weekend so their defense won’t be the focus.
