Yesterday. K-Rod’s agent Paul Kinzer was a guest on WFAN’s Boomer and Carton Show. He didn’t hide his attempt to endear Mets fans to his client.
“(There are three to four teams in the running) besides the Mets,” Kinzer said. “It’s a good fit because he likes pitching in the big games on the big stage and you definitely have that in New York. I think it’s a good fit for everybody. We have some other teams involved, but we are intrigued by that fit.”
I wonder if he is intrigued by our team or by our money?
Kinzer debunked several rumors from the usual suspects that had him pegged for $75 million/5 years, and said that he was hoping for something in the $15 million dollar a year range and four years. When asked directly if he would accept a four year $60 million dollar offer from the Mets he replied,
“We would definitely have interest in that.”
What do you think? Do the Mets go after the 26-year old closer and move on to addressing our other pressing needs?
If Kinzer is being honest, the Mets should put that exact offer on the table on Thursday night, with a 24 hour deadline to accept.
If K-Rod is being truthful, we could have our closer for the 2009 season, signed, sealed and delivered by Friday or Saturday.
