As per Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, potential New York Mets bullpen target Justin Wilson‘s market is beginning to develop.
“Left-handed reliever Justin Wilson, who pitched the last [one-and-a-half] seasons for the Cubs,” Nightengale wrote. “Is drawing interest from [six or seven] clubs as the relief market is finally heating up.”
Earlier this week, Andy Martino of SNY listed the 31-year-old southpaw as someone the Mets were “actively pursuing”, which could hypothetically place them within the half-dozen suitors Wilson reportedly has lined up at the moment.
Wilson, a California native, has been used exclusively as a reliever since making his MLB debut in 2012 for the Pirates. Over 412 career appearances (370.2 innings), Wilson has a 3.33 ERA, 3.30 FIP, 1.268 WHIP, with 9.9 strikeouts and 4.0 walks allowed per nine innings.
During his time with Chicago (94 appearances, 72.1 innings from July 2017 through the end of last season), Wilson has pitched to a 3.86 ERA with 94 strikeouts, 52 walks, a bloated 1.590 WHIP, and a 113 ERA+ rating.
Wilson made $4.25 million last season with the Cubs, a one-year deal he signed before the 2018 season to avoid arbitration.
