Sports Illustrated ran a very interesting article in their latest issue that ranked the best prospects in baseball under the age of 25.
Tom Verducci, who penned the article chose the top 10 players that he felt you could build a franchise around.
Not surprisingly, Jose Reyes was ranked number 3. He was also accompanied on the list by David Wright who was ranked number 9.
Here is what he said about each of them, and check out the rest of his article when you get a chance.
3. Jose Reyes, SS, Mets, 23. Two years ago I never would have imagined Reyes on such a list, but I’ve rarely seen a player improve so much so fast as Reyes has done. His improvement in plate discipline alone is extremely rare. Reyes is capable of hitting 25 homers, driving in 100 runs, scoring 140 runs and stealing 70 bases — and winning a Gold Glove. He’s already the most exciting player in baseball — and one of its hardest workers.
9. David Wright, 3B, Mets, 24. Tough choice here between Wright and Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, his fellow Virginian who is two years younger. Both third basemen are struggling this season with almost no power, so maybe they are not perennial All-Star locks. But Wright is a career .301 hitter with all-fields power after more than 1,500 major league at-bats, which is too good of a track record to ignore.
In case you were wondering who were chosen ahead of Jose Reyes, he chose Grady Sizemore at number two, and Miguel Cabrera the number one prospect under 25.
I would have easily ranked Jose Reyes ahead of Grady Sizemore.
