With the majority of the regulars in the New York Mets starting lineup still residing on the injured list, the ‘Bench Mob’ just continues to make the most of the golden opportunity in front of them.

Of note, infielder Jose Peraza has been one of the more impressive standouts of the group to step up and fill-in. On the season, Peraza is hitting .211 and has a .601 OPS with a pair of homers and nine runs batted in.

The veteran infielder carried the Mets to a pair of wins in the doubleheader with the Colorado Rockies this past week, smacking a solo shot in game one and driving in a pair in game two. Peraza hit .316 with a .350 OBP in a seven-game stretch.

He continued that success in Monday night’s series opening win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Peraza led off the top of the third with a single to left, and later came around to score on a Pete Alonso two-run single.

The red-hot Peraza was then gifted a double as he looped a hit that landed in-between left-fielder David Peralta and center-fielder Ketel Marte in his second at-bat. He again came in to score, this time on a Jacob deGrom run scoring hit.

While he has cooled off a bit offensively in his last few games, he has become a mainstay in the starting lineup. He has also continued to play a stellar second base for this Mets squad, as he flashed the leather with a fantastic sliding stop to rob Josh Rojas of a hit with one out in the bottom of the sixth on Monday. He has been a very pleasant surprise, and a nice little spark on both sides of the ball.

“You just have to be prepared, and that’s what I’ve been doing,” Peraza said earlier in the week. “I’ve gotten this opportunity and I’m going to try and take advantage of it and try to do my best so we can win every single game.”

With the Mets still taking second baseman Jeff McNeil’s hamstring injury on a week-to-week basis, they are going to need guys like Peraza and Jonathan Villar to continue to step up and take advantage of the playing time available in the middle infield.
