The Mets’ season might be over, but the injury bug continues to cast its shadow on 2025. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported that Jeff McNeil is recovering from a minor procedure he had shortly after the Mets’ season ended. McNeil’s agent, Garrett Parcell, described the surgery as a minor procedure for thoracic outlet syndrome, and the pain impacted McNeil’s swing late in the season. The 33-year-old already has “a good range of motion” and plans on being ready for spring training with no limitations.
Notably, Former Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler‘s season ended abruptly due to thoracic outlet syndrome. Matt Harvey also had thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in 2016. However, McNeil’s case seems minor in comparison.
McNeil missed the first month of 2025 recovering from an oblique strain. When he returned, the utility player hit .256/.348/.451 with a wRC+ of 124 through the end of August. However, in September, McNeil mustered a .187/.274/.240 line with a 53 wRC+.
