As the Mets search for starting pitching continues, one pitcher they’ve spoken to has apparently come close to making a decision.

According to the Denver Post, former Rockies pitcher Jeff Francis is close to making a decision.  The Mets have been interested in Francis, and are waiting to see if they were the team Francis wants to play for in 2011.

Last month,  Tracy Ringolsby of FoxSports.com was reporting that the Mets offered Jeff Francis a major-league contract.  Though it was brought down by Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Mets still are apparently interested in his services from what has been reported.

If the Mets get Jeff Francis, i think that the Mets will be getting a veteran pitcher who can eat some innings for the Mets, while having some insurance in the rotation until Johan Santana comes back.  I like Chris Young as well, but I feel that Jeff Francis is more of a better pitcher than Young.
