Continuing his rehab assignment last night for Triple-A Syracuse, Jed Lowrie went 3-for-4 with a home run and a walk.

It was thought that Lowrie would return to the Mets yesterday, but the team decided to give him more time in Triple-A before activating him.  In Lowrie’s previous 23 at-bats, he had just two hits.

Lowrie will be the team’s primary third baseman once he returns, but it is unclear who the Mets will send down to make room for him on the 25-man roster.

After signing a two-year $20M dollar contact this off-season, the Mets expected Lowrie to be a key contributor, but a knee capsule strain has kept him from making his Mets’ debut.

In 680 plate appearances last year for the Oakland A’s, Lowrie slashed .267/.353/.448 with 23 home runs and 99 RBI. The veteran infielder made the All-Star team for the first time in his career, and he posted a 4.9 fWAR.
