Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com, reports that there’s a strong chance that veteran infielder Jed Lowrie will make his Mets debut this Friday in front of the home crowd at Citi Field.
The Mets acquired 2018 All-Star Jed Lowrie in January and has yet to make his debut with the team. He was burdened with a left knee capsule strain in the beginning of spring training . He has spent the last two months on the injured list and has been rehabbing the injury since April 28.
The switch-hitter is currently playing his third rehab game for the Syracuse Mets after playing two games for Adavanced-A St. Lucie Mets.
Lowrie has been in the minors and has played in four games so far in his rehab stint. While the third baseman is batting a mere .133 in 16 plate appearances, the Mets are hopeful that he can join the team in Queens on Friday against the Miami Marlins.
Lowrie played for the Oakland Athletics last year and hit .267/.353/.448, which earned him a spot on the roster for the AL All- Star Game. With the struggling offense the Mets have had recently, the team hopes that veteran’s return will give them a boost.
