Despite the ridiculous warnings of impending injuries that would be revealed during his physical, Jason Bay passed his much anticipated physical with flying colors. The anti-Bay contingency must now find another tactic to cast aspersions on this signing after failing to prove that Bay is a defensive black hole or that he had several unreported broken parts that were kept secret. What will they think of next?
Luckily, the majority of us who applauded the move will get to see Jason Bay sporting his new duds at Citi Field tomorrow when he is introduced to Mets fans. The press conference will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM and most likely be telecast on SNY and heard on WFAN.
Bay will most certainly give the Mets the power that they desperately craved, and his presence should help David Wright find his power stroke as well. Bay has averaged 30 homers and 99 RBIs through his first six full seasons in the Majors with the Pirates and Red Sox.
The former National League Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Star is in his prime and continues to improve. This past season he won his first Silver Slugger Award as the league’s best leftfielder after hitting a career-high 36 homers and 119 RBIs.
When all of those homeruns were imposed over a scale of CitiField, it showed that nearly all of them would have been homeruns at Citi Field. Furthermore, some of the long doubles he hit off the Green Monster would have been homeruns at CitiField as well.
Expect great things, and don’t let the dissenting reports get you down. These same people who are knocking the signing now, are the same clowns who were knocking the Mets for not making a better or bigger offer weeks ago.
