Jacob deGrom tossed a quality start on Friday night thought it was not enough for his team to muster a win as their loss streak moved to six games in a 6-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Jake may not have had his dominant stuff going but still was able to keep his team in the game.

DeGrom, 31, pitched six innings against Atlanta while allowing three runs on six hits, walking two and striking out seven. It was deGrom’s sixth-consecutive quality start and his 12th of the season.

Jacob spoke about his start on Friday night with reporters after the game.

“I made a couple of mistakes and they capitalized on them,” deGrom said. “On the home run, I was trying to go up. It was right down the middle. … The two pitches I wish I could have had back, could’ve been a different ballgame.”  (NY Post)

Those two mistakes deGrom described came off the bats of Braves rookie, Austin Riley, and Josh Donaldson. The two home runs would stake the Braves to a 3-0 lead and would be all the runs Atlanta would need to claim victory against the Metropolitans.

DeGrom also touched on the frustrations that are beginning to build as the losses continue to pile up for the free-falling Mets.

“There’s a lot of tough outs in that lineup,” deGrom said. “It’s definitely frustrating, like any loss, but you lose that many in a row, it’s definitely frustrating. Us pitchers have to do a better job of giving these guys a chance.”

The bullpen, of course, would come in for the final three innings and allow the Braves to score an additional three runs as they continue to struggle to get the necessary outs.

DeGrom also surpassed the 1,000 innings mark with Friday’s start for his career and has compiled a 2.81 ERA over his past 12 starts since the beginning of May. He has allowed three runs or fewer in all 12 of those outings.

His season ERA now sits at 3.32 with a WHIP of 1.11, a FIP of 3.04 and a WAR of 2.8.
