During the fifth inning of the SNY broadcast, Gary Cohen revealed that Jacob deGrom exited the game due to a right hamstring spasm. With that news, it is fair to assume that deGrom was pulled for precautionary reasons and has a good chance to make his next start.

Wednesday was supposed to be a great pitching matchup between Jacob deGrom and Zack Wheeler, yet things did not go quite as planned at all for the Mets.

After pitching a scoreless first inning, deGrom ran into a lot of trouble in the second, giving up three hits and two runs. While his velocity did not show any signs of injury, deGrom did not record a strikeout until the second time through the order and looked off his game.

In between innings, you could see a very frustrated deGrom talking to the trainer in the dugout as he slammed a bottle of water into the ground. Then Michael Wacha entered the game in the third inning, for his first relief outing of the year.

As of now no news has been released as to why deGrom exited the game. We will update this article as soon as we know the reason for deGrom’s early exit.
