Jacob deGrom appeared to be sailing through a strong outing on Friday night with 10 strikeouts over six innings pitched, but did not return for the seventh inning. It was later reported that deGrom left Friday night’s game against the Padres with right flexor tendonitis.
DeGrom was replaced on the mound by Miguel Castro. Castro left the game with a stiff neck after allowing a two-run homer.
The flexor carpi radialis is one of four muscles in the superficial layer of the anterior compartment of the forearm. It is proximal to the wrist when the wrist is flexed. Flexor tendonitis can occur when there is a strain on the tendons and can stop movement in the finger.
DeGrom was activated from the injured list on May 25 after being on the injured list due to right side tightness. He has thrown in five games since returning from the injured list (May 25, May 31, June 5, and Friday night, June 11).
For the season, deGrom has a 0.56 ERA through 10 starts, a new MLB record for the lowest ERA through the first 10 starts of a season.
It is unknown as of now if deGrom will return to the injured list.
