Since Mets’ third baseman J.D. Davis was hit in the hand by a Chase Anderson fastball in a game against the Phillies on April 6, he avoided any broken bones, but he has been working to come back from a left hand contusion.

Currently listed as day-to-day and on the 10 day injured list retroactive to April 7, Davis looks to be on the road to a return sooner rather than later.

Davis, on a Zoom call Sunday, said that despite having difficulties gripping the bat because of the swelling in his left hand, fielding ground balls hasn’t been an issue and he feels he’s progressing in the right direction.

“It felt like it was still a pinch in there…it’s a waiting game for the swelling,” Davis said on a Zoom call discussing the stress test on Friday.

Question is – does Davis feel like he’ll need the full 10 days?

“I feel confident in how it’s healing, but you never know what’s going to happen. I can’t foresee three or four days, but at the same time, I am progressing in the right way,” Davis said about needing the full IL time.

“The whole season, it’s 162 games so I just have to take it day by day and get healthy and get back out there.”
