In a decision that is somewhat a surprise with the recent announcement of adding Blaine Boyer to the Mets’ bullpen, Jason Isringhausen has agreed to spend two more weeks in extended spring training to build his arm strength.

“I’ve come this far, another two weeks is not going to kill me…” Isringhausen told reporters”

For what its worth, Isringhausen was just coming off an injury and probably knew that his performance, as well as his injury history made it difficult to select him over two other healthy pitchers who pitched well.

This could be a great chance for the Mets to try and sort out their bullpen, or to possible try and arrange a trade to clear this bullpen mess.

I personally am glad to see Izzy stay. Its worth it to the pitchers who could use the advice and experience of a pitcher who has amounted to 293 saves and had a successful major league career. His value in the clubhouse may not be able to be measured by any trade or monetary return.
