The short answer is no.

The Mets may have lost in both their exhibition games this weekend, to their cross-town rivals no less, but hear me out — it just made me more excited for this season. It made me realize how much I have missed baseball, and how much this distraction is very much needed right now.

We saw Yoenis Cespedes play in a baseball game for the first time in two years. We saw his return to left field. It may not have been as climatic as we hoped, but it happened. Cespedes is back.

We were reminded of how much of an asset Seth Lugo is to the bullpen in Sunday’s night game, having two 1-2-3 innings. Even Edwin Diaz looked good and improved.

We saw how two of the Mets newest pitchers — Dellin Betances and Rick Porcello — look on the mound and can contribute to this team. Porcello in particular, who started Saturday’s game, had a pretty solid performance for his debut.

We saw Tomas Nido respond to the Yankees bringing in a fifth infielder for his at-bat, who lined a base hit to right-center field.

Then of course, we saw players like Jeff McNeil, Michael Conforto, Pete Alonso, and Amed Rosario just being themselves. Brandon Nimmo especially making us all laugh by saying that playing in an empty stadium is reminiscent of playing in Miami.

All of that is exciting, no? Of course there’s then the bullpen and the lack of offense I could also elaborate on, but hey, the June Mets needed to get out of the Mets system, and I’m okay with it happening in exhibition games rather than during the actual season.

It’s weird not being at Citi Field, that much is true for all of us. But Mets fans, we’re all in the same boat here (even some media, included!). At least there is baseball happening, safely.

But if you’re still excited, even after losing these two exhibition games, you are not the only one. Welcome to the club. We’re in this together.

Remember, they’re just exhibition games, right? Get the kinks out of the system now. And now we know that the Corey Oswalt starting pitcher experiment can end and does not need to continue into the regular season.
