Last season the Detroit Tigers made some huge headlines in the off season, and the biggest one of all was when they acquired Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from the Marlins.
The Mets tried like hell to get Dontrelle Willis at the time, but the marlins were not willing to trade him within the division.
A lot has changed since then, especially with the steep decline in Dontrelle’s performance.
But, maybe a change of scenery and return to the National League can get the one-time, intimidating starter back on the right track.

The front office got the word late last week that it could keep the payroll at about $134 million, same as last season, which means they can sign a cheap free agent (Darren Oliver, Hoffman) or two. A far cry from last season, when they went all out and had nothing to show for it. They’re also contemplating a deal with Boston to send either Nate Robertson or Dontrelle Willis for Lugo, but some money issues must be resolved.
Willis had a brutal season, making just eight starts for the Tigers and spending most of his time in the minors. However, it wasn’t that long ago when the big lefthander won 22 games with a 2.63 ERA for a bad Marlins team.
Willis will turn 27 in January, and he’s owed some big bucks.
Because of his drop in performance, he probably wouldn’t cost much in talent to get.
