Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com reported on some Mets injury situations prior to today’s game.

For starters, Dominic Smith has been dealing with a sore wrist for about a week and will return to the lineup on Tuesday when the Mets are in Canada to play the Toronto Blue Jays. Apparently, it was somewhat noteworthy too, as the injury was apparently substantial enough to require an MRI and an injection, as first reported by the New York Post.

The first baseman-turned-outfielder has not appeared in a game since Friday and not started one since Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Noah Syndergaard and Jason Vargas are both expected to pitch in a simulated game on Tuesday in Port St. Lucie.

Syndergaard has been on the disabled list since May 25 with a right index finger strain while Vargas has been on the DL since June 20 with a strained right calf.

According to Tim Healey of Newsday, Vargas has yet to run yet and will have to practice his fielding as a pitcher before being cleared to return and Mickey Callaway could not offer any answers as to whether or not that would occur in the simulated game.

“We’ll see how he is in a few days when he has to throw and see if he can cover bases and things like that. If not, we’ll really control it just to get him some work against hitters.”
