While speaking with reporters prior to Monday night’s series opening 5-2 win over the Chicago Cubs, New York Mets manager Luis Rojas provided an update on some of the Mets players remaining on the injured list.

And well Mets fans, we have some more good news, we’re getting closer and closer to getting the band back together!

Outfielders Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo have been feeling good, and are progressing more and more each day.

Nimmo, who is recovering from a ligament tear in his left index finger, took batting practice on the field at Citi Field Monday afternoon for the first time in about a month after he resumed taking light swings last week.

Conforto has missed nearly a month now with a right hamstring strain. He first started running the bases pregame Saturday afternoon, and has been running at 95-100% over the past three days to test that hammy.

Rojas said they’ll evaluate how both players are feeling when they get to the stadium on Tuesday afternoon, and if they can avoid any setbacks they both could potentially be looking at beginning a rehab assignment as soon as the end of this week.

Speaking of rehab assignments, outfielder Albert Almora has played five games during his stint with the Syracuse Mets, and Rojas expects him to return to the team this weekend.

Almora has just two hits, but one of them was a homer over his five rehab games. The outfielder is dealing with a shoulder bruise he suffered from a scary collision with the right-center field fence at Citi Field. He was hitting just 1-for-21 to begin his Mets career.

Rojas also mentioned that second baseman Jeff McNeil could potentially be joining Almora in his return to the team this weekend. McNeil played five innings in the field, and went 0-for-2 with a fly out and ground out on Sunday with the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones.

Zack Scott and company figure to have some tough roster decisions to make in the near future as more and more of their regulars recover from their respective injuries. No matter what though, the ‘Replace-Mets’ stepped up admirably when they were needed the most, and the depth of this ball-club looks extremely strong moving forward.
