According to Betsy Helfand of the Review-Journal, Las Vegas infielder Matt Reynolds left from Sacramento today to join the New York Mets in New York.

Reynolds, 26, has primarily been playing left field for the 51s this season. He is currently batting .300 with a .364 on-base percentage in 55 plate appearances for the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate.

Last season, Reynolds hit .225/.266/.416 with eight doubles, three home runs and 13 RBIs in 47 games with the big league club.

Defensively, Reynolds has been quite versatile as an infielder, playing an adequate shortstop as well as second and third base. He’s been playing left field for the first time in his professional career.

It will be interesting to see what’s behind this news. Could Yoenis Cespedes be headed to the DL? Asdrubal Cabrera has also been ailing. Or maybe Travis d’Arnaud has healed up enough to catch again and Kevin Plawecki is going back to Las Vegas? But if it were that then why not just announce it? I’ll update this post once we learn more.
