Strike Three, Yer Out…

Matt Harvey may have been the big story in last night’s contest between the Buffalo Bisons and the Toledo Mudhens, but there was another storyline – Mets rehabbing left fielder Jason Bay.

Bay played in what could be his final rehab game and went 0-for-2 with two walks.

He also muffed a flyball to left field that he lost in the lights and fell in for a single. That baserunner would later come around to score and was charged to Matt Harvey.

But what really made me shake my head in disgust was Bay’s at-bat in the first inning.

With the count at 1-and-2, Bay took the next pitch and then started to walk back to the dugout, he got about ten feet away when the umpire called out to him and told him to get back in the batters box.

The last pitch was a ball and the count was 2-2 , the umpire shouted.

With players on both sides watching with their mouths wide open, Bay walked back to the plate and resumed his at-bat. Two pitches later he struck out for real….swinging.

Yep, he’s ready to join the Mets.

So who are we cutting to make room for him, Valdespin?
