First base prospect Ike Davis has been sent to minor-league camp, according to David Lennon of Newsday via Twitter.
Ike Davis headed down today. No Opening Day for him.
Davis ends a solid spring debut with a .480 batting average, three home runs and ten RBI’s in 25 at-bats.
He made quite an impression on the Mets staff, his teammates and of course the fans with his no-nonsense demeanor, heady play, and flashes of his enormous power potential. Davis had this to say,
“Of course, that’s your dream as a baseball player. But it’s not right for right now. Hopefully someday it will be. Just to know that I’m not far behind is pretty comforting. To see your goal is not that far away is pretty cool.”
He may be going down for now, but it shouldn’t be for long, and if he continues to rake in Buffalo as he did in St. Lucie, we may see him back some time around the All Star Break.
Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel made no secret of how much they love this kid, and when he finally does rejoin the Mets, you can be certain that it will be for good.
Other cuts this morning include catcher Shawn Riggins, outfielder Jolbert Cabrera, first baseman Nick Evans, pitcher Tobi Stoner and outfielder Jason Pridie.
