Aside from Ike Davis, the Mets offense fired blanks on Saturday night as the D’Backs handed them a 6-3 loss.
Chris Young struggled again and allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks in four innings to raise his earned run average rise to 4.58 for the season. The six runs were the most Young has allowed in a game in more than three years.
The bullpen came up big with Ramon Ramirez tossing two scoreless, Manny Acosta 11 scoreless, and rookie Josh Edgin faced two batters and struck both of them out.
Ike Davis was the one singular sensation for the Mets in this game going 4-for-4 with three home runs and a single. Ike becomes the ninth player in Mets history to hit three home runs in a single game. Since June 12, Davis has 15 homers, one behind Jason Kubel who leads the majors with 16 in that span. Safe to say Ike is back… I think…
Jason Bay finished 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and is now 0-for-19 in his last six games. He also got another ringing endorsement from Terry Collins. His batting average is now down to .164. Kirk Nieuwenhuis was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, extending his own slump to 0-for-11.
In Sunday’s finale R.A. Dickey (13-2, 2.97 ERA) will oppose Joe Saunders (5-6, 3.51) , game time is at 4:10 PM.
