What an unbelievable finish to the Mets game this afternoon.
Jeff Francoeur ended the top of the ninth with a dazzling sliding catch that was originally called a trap (it wasn’t). Francoeur made a mad dash to the second base umpire and went ballistic, causing the umpires to confer and reverse the call which ended the inning for the Phillies.
The Mets head into the bottom of the ninth down by three runs with the score 9-6. Angel Pagan leads off and thanks to a Ryan Howard three base error, he ends up on third base. Luis Castillo follows and Eric Bruntlett, who I now hate, makes another error to score Pagan as Castillo is safe at first base. The Mets are now down by just two runs.
Daniel Murphy follows with a single to put runners on first and second with a very hot Jeff Francoeur at the plate and no outs. The Mets were on the verge of one of the biggest comebacks of the season. But the baseball gods would have nothing of it…
Francoeur hits a scorching line drive that is speared by Eric Bruntlett for the first out, he steps on second base for the second out, and tags Daniel Murphy for the third out. A Triple Play!

It was the 15th unassisted triple play in major league history — and the third that ended a game. The first two came more than 80 years ago, by Pittsburgh shortstop Glenn Wright in 1925 and Detroit first baseman Johnny Neun in 1927.
