Hudgens Said What??

“You always like to have speed, but it’s just a matter of, we need to get on base at a high rate,” Mets hitting coach Dave Hudgens said. “We get on base at a high rate, we’ve got good offensive players, we’ll score runs.”

Excuse me Dave for interjecting here, but the Mets were second in the NL in OBP last season with a .335 OBP, and are 4th with a .330 OBP in 2012 (.005 from the top) while ranking 13th in runs scored. You want to run that by me again?

The Mets also rank among the top teams in walks this season with 63 free passes, but are at the bottom of the league in hits with only 120 base-knocks.

We had 23 batters get on base in yesterday’s doubleheader and 20 of them were left stranded, ten of them got on via a walk. An opportune hit would have been a welcomed sight.

I think Mr. Hudgens needs to get this team focused on being more aggressive at the plate because taking called third strikes has reached an epidemic level in Flushing.
