According to Andy Martino of the Daily News, Terry Collins and unidentified team officials asked Mike Pelfrey if he would consider being converted to a closer.

“Would you be willing to be the closer next year?” Terry Collins asked the pitcher, according to someone who was briefed on, but did not witness or participate in, the conversation.

“Absolutely,” Pelfrey responded.

Martino goes on to say that any chance of this happening is “highly unlikely” because GM Sandy Alderson is said to be averse to it and his vote is the only vote that counts.

But seriously, the fact that this is even being discussed really does underscore how badly the Mets want Pelfrey out of the rotation and how far he has fallen down the organizational ladder. You see… It’s not just me!
