Holland Signs Pact In The Bay
Derek Holland has signed with the San Francisco Giants to stay in the Bay for another season at $7 Million, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Holland, 32, spent his first season in San Francisco in 2018 and went 7-9 with a 3.57 ERA over 30 starts.
Holland debuted in 2009 with the Rangers and was a key part of a 2011 Rangers rotation that went to a second consecutive World Series. In that season, Holland lead the league with four shutouts and won 16 games. He would be with the Rangers through 2016. He left for the White Sox after 2016, stayed there for a season, and then went to the Giants for 2018. The Giants have a club option for 2020 on Holland’s deal.
Garcia Takes His Talents To Tampa Bay
As per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Rays and outfielder Avisail Garcia have agreed to a contract for at least the 2019 season, and maybe beyond. The 27 year old seemed to be a corner stone for the White Sox outfield, but that level of play never materialized.
Garcia has spent five-and-a-half seasons with the White Sox after debuting with the Tigers in 2012. After struggling through 2016, Garcia broke through in 2017 and was selected to the 2017 American League All-Star team. He slumped again through the 2018 season, posting a .719 OPS and a 96 OPS+.
Padres Looking Into Three Team Deal
According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, the Padres are interest in trading for Indians starter Corey Kluber and then flipping him to the Cincinnati Reds, even if that means in a three-team trade format.
The Padres have been in need of a long-term third baseman, and they believe that by acquiring a starting pitcher, preferably an ace, they can get their third baseman by flipping him there after. The Padres’ interest seems to lie in Nick Senzel, Reds’ prospect and former first round pick.
