Ruben Tejada collected his second 4-hit game of the season last night in Colorado, but Jose Reyes has yet to collect his second 4-hit week as the first month of the season comes to and end. He got the game off yesterday so he could have a mental break and get some rest. He is batting .205 and has only 3 hits in his last 26 at-bats after going 1-12 against the Mets. There’s talk of batting Reyes eighth in the lineup as the team is having trouble scoring runs. Yikes!
Scott Hairston said last night was bittersweet for him after hitting for the cycle in that dilapidated Mets loss to Colorado. Kudos to Hairston for the remarkable and rare feat. You had it good Scotty… Imagine how us Mets fans felt having to stay up past midnight to watch that mess last night? “Bittersweet” is putting it mildly. 😉
That Valentino Pascucci dude is something else. He now has an 11-game hitting streak going into today’s game for Buffalo. Why doesn’t somebody give this bruiser a chance? It’s hard to believe there isn’t a major league bench that wouldn’t benefit by having Scooch on it. By the way, don’t look now but former #1 Mets prospect Wilmer Flores is seeing his stock rising again. The 20-year old third baseman is batting .312 with three homers and 17 RBI and is currently riding a 12-game hitting streak.
Does anybody want to bring Jeremy Hefner back so we can give him at least a start or two to see what he has to offer? I’m thinking yes. He takes the hill today for the Bisons and I bet Sandy Alderson will be just as interested in how he does today as I am. More on that tomorrow. Second baseman Brad Emaus is now hitting .312/.372/.532/.905 for Buffalo… No wait, make that Fernando Martinez for Oklahoma City… F-Mart now has four homers, five doubles, 18 RBI and 15 runs scored in 20 games for the Astros’ Triple-A club.
I’m really getting concerned about Mike Nickeas and I think his days as Josh Thole’s backup are numbered. Keep your eye on Lucas May who has been putting on a nice power display for Buffalo and could eventually supplant the .188 hitting Nickeas. Jason Bay, David Wright, Ike Davis and Lucas Duda are in a four-way tie for the Mets home run lead with three bombs a piece. I’m betting that Davis busts out in a big way and breaks the deadlock while coming out of his funk at the plate.
